Robert Adams 1935-2013

FOWLER – Robert “Bob” Adams, 77, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 22, 1935, in Warren, the son of Lee and Ena Castile Adams.

Bob was employed as a crane operator at WCI Steel for 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War.

He was a member of the Fowler Community Church and a past member of the Fowler Volunteer Fire Department.

He married the former Helen Yavelak Protiva March 27, 1979. Together, they were avid Cleveland Indians baseball fans and they spent many of their years traveling to spring training with friends. Bob and Helen enjoyed feeding the birds and deer that used to visit their home and their cats, BlackJack and Missy, and pet swan named Duck. They both loved spending time with family, especially their grandchildren. Bob also liked fishing, NASCAR and rooting for Jeff Gordon and had a great fondness for bluegrass music.

Bob will be deeply missed by all those who loved him and knew his kind and generous nature.

He is survived by his spouse, Helen M. Protiva Adams of Fowler; brother, Richard (Phyllis) Adams of Bristolville; sons, Raymond (Karen) Adams and Richard (Cheri) Adams of Colebrook; daughter, Pamela (Daniel) Kelley of Champion; son, David (Diane) Adams of Alexandria, Va.; daughter, Deborah Hopkins of Youngstown; stepsons, William (Deborah) Protiva of Vienna and Steven (Karen) Protiva of West Farmington; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Haggerty; sister, Althea Huff; stepsons, Michael and Thomas Protiva; and stepdaughter, Catherine Stein.

The family wishes to extend thanks to his caregivers Tracy, Tammy, Tami, Pam, Cyndi and Wendy and neighbors Tim and Pam Larrison.

In keeping with Bob’s wishes, cremation will take place and there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

At Bob’s own request, memorial contributions may be made to the Fowler Volunteer Fire Department.

Arrangements were entrusted to Carl W. Hall Funeral Service in Warren.
