Peter B. Palovich 1921-2013
HOWLAND – Peter B. Palovich, 91, passed away at 3:45 p.m. Feb. 10, 2013, at Community Skilled Healthcare in Warren.
Peter was born June 2, 1921, in Duquesne, Pa., the son of Michael and Helen Brakovich Palovich.
He was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, and married Frances Mitulinsky Palovich on Oct. 30, 1943. They shared 64 years of marriage together before Frances passed away April 21, 2007. Peter was always a loving and devoted husband to Frances, and his love and devotion was never more evident as demonstrated in the way he cared for Frances at the end of her life.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged Aug. 6, 1943.
He worked for Wean Engineering for 20 years, and after retiring, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning and training thoroughbred race horses.
Along with his wife, they owned and operated Palovich Stables in Howland for 19 years. He remained interested in horse racing even after retiring from his second career as an owner-trainer.
Peter was a member of the Knights of Columbus 620 and a founding member of Blessed Sacrament Parish. He enjoyed watching wildlife from his window in the home he built in Howland in 1948.
Survivors include his nieces, Nancy (Matthew) Pinto of Howland, Darlene (Paul) Spelich of Cortland and Geri (Glenn) George of Salem; and his nephew, Ivan (Betty) Palovich of Salem. He is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews.
Peter was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Palovich Hinton, Anne Palovich Smith and Theresa Palovich Scrbek; and his brothers, John Palovich, George Palovich and Mathew Palovich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church with celebrant the Rev. Thomas Eisweirth. Calling hours will immediately precede the mass at 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Warren.
