NEWTON FALLS – Stephen J. Cannata Jr., 62, entered into rest on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren, with his friend Linda by his side.

Stephen was born on Sept. 18, 1950, the son of Stephen J. and Stella Cannata.

In his younger years, Steve was known by his friends as “Jo Jo.” He attended St. Mary’s Parochial School prior to entering the Newton Falls school system, graduating from Newton Falls High School in 1968.

After graduation, Steve enrolled in Youngstown State University with a major in accounting. While attending Youngstown State, he was employed at the Ravenna Arsenal.

Having completed his education, Steve obtained employment as a deputy treasurer at the Trumbull County Treasurer’s Office. He took his job seriously and demonstrated a great work ethic. He continued to work during his illness, just recently retiring on Dec. 31, 2012.

Steve loved his rock and roll and was the drummer for the local band The Roads End, having his stage name as Shaun Manaway. He loved fishing and wearing camouflage while hiking in the back woods and at West Branch. One of his favorite places was Cooks Forest. Steve loved to cook and was good at it, especially at his bonfires with cookout parties. He enjoyed gardening and canning at the end of the growing season. He would always be sure to plant garlic.

Steve liked high-tech toys that flew or moved and also enjoyed watching dog and horse racing. He absolutely loved his dogs and cats and feeding the wildlife and birds.

Steve always had a very high respect for the people having military service. He played on the SOI baseball and volleyball teams.

Steve was and always will be loved and remembered by scores of family, friends and co-workers as a kind, loving, giving and ever helping man.

Steve is survived by his two nieces, Sara Divito and Stephanie Divito of New Jersey.

Preceding Steve were his parents and his sister, Nora Cannata-Divito of Pennington, N.J.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary and St. Joseph Parish in Newton Falls.
