James E. Starr 1929-2013

CORTLAND – James Edward Starr, 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013.

He was born May 14, 1929, in Nanty Glo, Pa., the son of the late Ernest E. Starr and the late Annabel Dinger.

He died as he lived, peacefully and with dignity and grace, surrounded by family at Cortland Healthcare Center.

He married Aloma Sloan on Jan. 26, 1946.

First Jim loved his God, then his wife and family with the same unconditional love that the Father had bestowed upon him. He accepted and welcomed each member of his family as they came and just as they were.

He loved church activities, the outdoors, fishing, hunting, golf, bowling, lawn work and gardening. He loved most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren, and they were drawn to his presence and enjoyed being with him just as much.

He was a machine operator at American Welding, where he retired April 1, 1987, after 35 years.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Linda (Carl) Bliven of Cortland; sons, William (Mary Ann) Starr of Denton, Texas, and Thomas (Brenda) Starr of Warren; grandchildren, Amy Starr, Nicole (Kyle) Metcalf, Thomas (Karrie) Cadle, Kimberly (William) Patrick, Stacey (Paul) Franklin, Shane Starr, Sean Hall and Steven Hall; great-grandchildren, Jacob Stewart, Jessica Metcalf, Blake Metcalf, Justin Moore Cadle, Joshua Cadle, Halee Hall, Kyle Patrick, Lauren Patrick, Andrew Culver, Amber Culver and Dominic Franklin; and great-great-grandchildren, Charles Culver and Landon Culver

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leonard, Richard, Harry, Raymond and David; and a sister, Marion Starr.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Bazetta Christian Church, where Pastor Paul P. Leone will officiate. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.

Interment will be in Sager Memorial Park in Bristol.
