Earnest V. Lewis Sr. 1927-2013
NEWTON FALLS – Earnest V. Lewis Sr.,85, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
On Dec. 17, 1927, in Duffy, W.Va., Arden and Anna McClain Lewis welcomed the birth of their son, Earnest.
Earnest was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He received the Purple Heart and the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars.
After serving the country, Earnest was employed as a welder by Rockwell International.
Earnest was member of Newton Falls First Church of God. He was a life member, past commander and Man of the Year of VFW Post 3332. He was also a life member of American Legion Post 236, having received his 55-year pin. Earnest was also a member of Disabled American Veterans.
On Feb. 14, 1987, Wanda J. Rood Miller and Earnest Lewis Sr. were united into marriage.
Memories of Earnest will be carried on and cherished by his wife, Wanda of Newton Falls; sons, Ernest V. (Monica) Lewis Jr. and Robert P. Lewis, both of Newton Falls, and Richard D. (Debra) Lewis of North Jackson; stepson, Glenn (Lucy) Miller of Cleveland; stepdaughter, Karen (Richard) Smith of Newton Falls; sister, Ida Black of Newton Falls; brothers, William Lewis of Ringold, Ga., and Henry (Marsha) Lewis of Rialto, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife, Caryl J. Lewis; sons, John C. and Donald A. Lewis; and granddaughter, Tamaira Lewis.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Borowski Memorial Home, where services will be held at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Arnold Edmondson officiating. Earnest will be honored for his service to the country by the Newton Falls Veterans Organization.
Earnest will be laid to rest in Ireland, W.Va.
