Angeline E. Rufener 1919-2013
CHAMPION – Angeline E. Rufener, 93, of Champion, died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 6, 2013, at Laurie Ann Nursing Home in Newton Falls.
She was born May 9, 1919, in Warren, the daughter of the late Peter and Elizabeth Savopolis Peristeris.
Angeline was a 1937 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School.
She had worked prior to her marriage at Packard Electric Corp. in Warren, and was a homemaker all of her married life.
She was a member of Champion Presbyterian Church.
Angeline was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a great cook and loved cooking for her family.
She and her husband loved gardening, including vegetables, which they canned, and porch plants, which they displayed. Angie had a green thumb, which she passed on lovingly to her daughter, Gayle.
She was a voracious reader and especially loved historical novels. Angie respected and loved education, and her son, David, and daughter, Mary Lou, are teachers because their mother taught them the love of learning. She will be greatly missed.
She married Marion Walter Rufener on March 17, 1946. They were married for 41 years, when he died.
Her children are David W. (Sandy) Rufener of Lima, Mary Lou (Sean) Gaffney of Tampa, Fla., and Gayle E. (John Buck) Tawney of Newton Falls. Also, surviving is one sister, Irene Miller of Howland and Angie’s grandchildren, Patrick Rufener, Peter (Heidi) Rufener, Jeremy (Kate) Rufener, Christina Tawney and Mary Rufener; and five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Caleb, Olivia, Jack and Evan.
One great-granddaughter, Everly, and two sisters, Mary Klos and Polly Suain, and one brother, George Paris, have all preceded her in death.
The family will greet friends from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel, where the service will follow at 12:30 p.m. Her daughter-in-law, Pastor Sandra Rufener, will officiate.
Burial will be in Champion Township Cemetery.
