Gander store to reopen in Niles
NILES — The shuttered Gander Mountain store will reopen this spring as Gander Outdoors, according to an announcement made Jan. 3 by the company’s CEO, Marcus Lemonis, who also serves as CEO of Camping World Holdings, Inc.
Lemonis posted a video to social media in which he named nearly 70 store locations that will re-open. The Niles Gander Mountain closed in June and held liquidation sales into August, according to Joe Bell, director of corporate communications for the Cafaro Company, which owns the building the sporting goods store occupied for about a year.
In the video, Lemonis said two stores that previously closed already have opened and two more are set to open next week. From there, stores will start opening at “a rapid pace,” Lemonis said. The goal is to have the stores open by May, Lemonis said, although openings may vary depending on details pertaining to various construction and inventory needs.
“This is a list we feel is very solid and ready to go,” Lemonis said.
The announcement was paired with a press release from Camping World Holdings, Inc., of which Lemonis is chairman, that states Camping World Holdings plans to purchase Erehwon Mountain Outfitter, a retailer of outdoor gear and apparel.
The Cafaro Company doesn’t yet have a finalized agreement with Gander Outdoors, Bell said, but things are moving in the right direction.
“If negotiations continue in the direction they are currently heading, we should see the store reopen sometime this spring as Gander Outdoors,” Bell said.
Over the past nine months, Camping World Holdings has acquired certain assets of Gander Mountain, a retailer of hunting, fishing, camping and outdoor gear, according to a press release.
