Gallery offers free workshops

Art Outreach Gallery will offer more than 60 free summer workshops for children beginning June 12.

The free workshops scheduled include yoga, acting, painting, book making, macrame, bracelet making and classes on famous artists such as Chuck Close, Vincent Van Gogh, Judith Ann Braun and Pablo Picasso.

Also planned are two open studio art classes for the McKinley Art Contest, in which participants will learn about President William McKinley in a partnership with the Niles McKinley Memorial Library.

Workshops are designed for students ages 4 to 18. Area educators from Canfield and Niles McKinley high schools, along with graduates from Youngstown State University and the Trumbull Career and Technical Center, will conduct the workshops.

The 2017 Youth Summer Workshops are funded through the Ohio Art Council as well as local foundations, community volunteers and the gallery’s board of directors. The gallery’s education committee stated that it believes it is important to give all students an opportunity to participate in the summer workshops while teaching children the importance of giving back to the community.

Space and supplies are limited. Registration forms are available online at www.artoutreach.org and can be picked up at the Art Outreach Gallery at Eastwood Mall, 5555 Youngstown Warren Road, Niles, or at the mall’s customer service center. Completed registration forms can be dropped off at the gallery or at the customer service center.

For more information, call the mall office at 330-652-6980 or Gail Stark at 330-219-7833.
