Three plan to seek judge position
NILES — The director of the Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services is taking an unpaid leave of absence while he campaigns for the Democratic nomination for Niles municipal judge.
Attorney John Gargano said he is leaving his job in the hands of a few “capable administrators” in the JFS office.
Gargano is running against three other Democrats in the May 2 primary — attorney Christopher Shaker, Weathersfield Trustee and attorney Gil Blair and Niles City Prosecutor Terry Swauger.
Gargano is also the director of the Trumbull County One Stop and Child Support Enforcement Agency, where he oversees 230 employees. He served at times as an acting judge in Niles between 1992 and 2016 and was the city’s prosecutor for a year in the 1980s.
Gargano is a member of the Trumbull County and state bar associations.
