Winterfest Dance marks 16th year

GIRARD — The 16th annual Special Needs Winterfest Dance will be 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Mahoning Country Club, 710 E. Liberty St. SE.

Jeanne Constantino, event coordinator and special education teacher at East High School, said the dance will include an evening of music and entertainment for high-school-aged students with multiple, orthopedic and / or developmental disabilities from the tri-county area.

“The dance allows students to interact with students from other school districts. We want our special students to have a fun-filled night and experience socialization with their peers from other communities,” Constantino said.

At the event, Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and elves will meet with children and be available to have pictures taken.

A Snow Prince and Snow Princess will be crowned during the dance, and a drawing will be held for the dance court with the names randomly drawn from each school’s tickets.

”We are excited that the dance continues to be an annual event,” Constantino said.

Constantino said there is no cost for the dinner but those who plan to attend are asked to call 330-740-4005, Ext. 4143.
