WHAT: Board of Education meeting Monday

PRESENT: Superintendent Joseph Nohra, Christopher Brookbank, Scott Davis, Diana DeVito, Calvin Jones and David Malone

The board:

• Gave preliminary approval of a second school resource officer for the 2019-20 school year and directed the superintendent to negotiate, prepare and submit an agreement with Liberty Township officials and trustees for final approval by the board by July 31. Superintendent Nohra will work with the police department to select a candidate to be approved for hiring at a later date;

• Approved the proposal submitted by Julian & Grube Inc. to conduct the Medicaid School Program audit as required by Ohio Administrative Code sections 5160-35-01 through 5160-35-06 for the fiscal years ended June 30, 2020 and June 30, 2021;

• Approved the Memorandum of Agreement between the Liberty Local Schools and the Youngstown-Mahoning Valley United Way to provide the Pre-Kindergarten Readiness Summer Program (Success by Six) during summer 2019;

• Approved the agreement between Youngstown State University and Liberty Junior High School to offer students research-based computer science instruction strategies;

• Approved the proposal submitted by CW Landscaping for lawn, landscape and snow removal services for May 2019 through April 2020;

• Approved ending the agreement with the MVR Regional COG for the services of Steven Stohla effective March 1, 2019, and direct the superintendent to notify the MVR Regional COG that the Liberty Local Schools will no longer utilize his services;

• Approved the contract for Debra A. Mettee, effective March 1 through July 31 as consultant / director of human resources and administrative professional development, replacing Steven Stohla;

• Approved the district’s participation in the Ohio Means Jobs program with the Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services Board and direct the superintendent to create a transportation and incentive program for student participation, which will be submitted to the board for final approval;

• Approved not renewing three home instructors, seven long-term substitute teachers, six mentors, two Success after Six principals and two Success after Six aides for the 2019-20 school year;

• Approved a one-year contract to Jenna McCarty, French teacher, effective Aug. 26, 2019 through June 30, 2020;

• Approved not renewing Spring Harringer, Title 1 teacher, and Latika Morris, educational aide, at Victory Christian School for 2018-19;

• Approved Nancy Gough as a substitute paraprofessional and secretary for the for the 2019-20 school year;

• Approved Beth Russell as assistant to the treasurer effective April 7, 2019;

• Approved to grant supplemental contracts to John Cardiero as Athletic Director and Thomas Otto as Athletic Director / Facilities Manager from the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year;

• Approved the resignation of Chris Cole, high school boys basketball coach;

• Approved the list of field trips for PK-6 and Jr. High students for the months of May and June.
