Drug Take Back Day is Saturday

The 17th annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day — a free service to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs — is Saturday.

Since the program’s inception in 2010, the DEA has collected a total of nearly 11 million pounds — more than 5,400 tons — of expired, unused and unwanted prescription medications through its Take Back Day events. Liquids, needles or sharps are not accepted.

This weekend, approximately 6,000 collection sites manned by nearly 5,000 partner law enforcement agencies will be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In Trumbull County, the Bazetta, Hubbard and Newton Township police departments are serving as dropoff sites. Others participating include Liberty, Milton Township, Canfield and Youngstown State University police departments and the Geauga County Sheriff’s Department.
