Mathews schools resource officer arrested for theft

WARREN — Michael Sheehy, school resource officer with the Mathews School District, was arrested Monday evening on charges of theft in office, possessing criminal tools and an additional theft charge.

Sheehy, 32, who was hired last fall as the district’s first resource officer and also conducted DARE programs, was placed on leave by Vienna police Chief Bob Ludt during an investigation. Sheehy had been using vacation time while on leave.

Mathews School Superintendent Russell McQuaide had said the situation did not involve a student. He said when he became aware of the situation he notified Ludt, who then turned the information over to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

The charges against Sheehy were filed in Girard Municipal Court. He was booked Monday evening into the Trumbull County Jail.
