Victim advocacy receives $161,895 grant
WARREN — The Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office has been awarded a $161,895 Victims of Crime Act grant to fund its victim / witness program for 2019.
The award was made by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and represents a $13,600 increase over last year’s award and the largest amount ever received for the program, according to a news release from Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins.
The attorney general’s office has funded the local victim / witness program since 1986 and the program itself was founded in 1984. This will be the 31st renewal of the grant, Watkins said, noting it will be used to fund three full-time employees who cover the adult and juvenile courts.
Trumbull County commisssioners have pledged local funds to match a percentage of the state award, Watkins said. The county also received approximately $9,400 from the State Victim Assistance Act grant that Watkins said will be used for updated technical equipment and advanced advocate training.
