Niles board reviews levy options
NILES — The Niles Board of Education is reviewing options to place a levy request on the May primary ballot.
Board President Susan Longacre said Thursday the board is discussing possibly placing one renewal levy that would generate $1.3 million a year on the ballot, but no official decision was made.
The district tried a substitute levy on Nov. 6, but voters sent it to defeat. The levy would have combined two millage renewals into one 11.7-mill levy to raise $2.6 million a year.
The two existing levies expire in 2019 and 2022 and raise a combined $2.6 million a year.
School officials says if a renewal fails, they will have to look at cuts before next school year.
