Accident closes part of turnpike

LORDSTOWN — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle accident involving a semi-truck and another truck Monday evening that blocked lanes of the Ohio Turnpike.

A Trumbull County 911 supervisor said they received a call around 8:14 p.m. to send ambulances to the site where a semi-truck hit a food truck that was disabled on the side of the road. The driver of the food truck was not in the vehicle when it was hit.

Emergency crews from Newton Falls, Lordstown and Milton Township were called to the scene as was HazMat for possible chemical fuel spill from the trucks.

Two eastbound lanes were still closed near the Newton Falls / Bailey Road overpass as of 11 p.m. Monday, but they were expected to reopen overnight. The spokesperson said one person was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
