Warren man arrested in Cortland DQ stabbing

CORTLAND — A man from Warren faces a charge of felonious assault in connection to a stabbing Sunday in the parking lot of Dairy Queen.

Daniel E. Dicks, 38, who was arraigned Monday before Central District Court Judge Thomas A. Campbell, remained in the Trumbull County Jail late Monday afternoon on $75,000 bond.

Because the charge was a felony, an automatic plea of not guilty was entered for Dicks, 4415 Berkshire Drive SE, Apt. 2.

He is accused of stabbing Donald Jarvis, 58, 7523 Anderson Ave. NE, Warren, in the neck outside of the ice cream store just before 7:30 p.m.

Two men arrived at the store and got out the car arguing, according to a police report, and witnesses told police one man pulled out a knife and stabbed the other inside and outside of the vehicle.

Dicks was arrested. Jarvis was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with injuries.

Cortland police Chief David Morris said the injuries were significant enough the department called the Trumbull County Homicide Task Force to help investigate.

Morris said the argument appears to have been between two people who knew each other.

“This was not a random act of violence,” Morris said. “There are no other suspects. There is no danger to the community.”

Dicks had been arrested on a variety of traffic, assault, drug and theft violations since 1999, according to Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office records. He most recently spent time in the county jail for possession of drug abuse instruments, having drug paraphernalia and several traffic violations from March 10 through April 22, records show.
