WHAT: Village council meeting Tuesday

PRESENT: Joseph Battisti, Tarry Alberini, Phillip Beer, John Baryak, Mark Stimpert and Mayor Lyle Waddell

Council:

• Heard from resident Tony Kline about forming a “Better Road Committee” to address the condition of roads in the community and see what options can be found to improve the roads. Attempts to get a road levy passed in 2017 and 2018 were defeated by voters. Those wanting to be part of the committee can call 330-519-3689 or 330-993-7072;

• Heard from Village Manager Jack Haney that local Boy Scout Jonathan Beckner will do his Eagle Scout project of retiring U.S. flags at 1 p.m. Oct. 6;

• Entered into a contract with V-Press Underground Inc. for the Maple Street sanitary sewer separation project at a cost of $128,224. Haney said the company was selected from six bids received;

• Presented a certificate of appreciation to the Newton Falls VFW Post 3332 auxiliary who recently hosted 40 veterans from the Louis Stokes Medical Center and Wade Park campus, providing them with dinner, entertainment and health and hygiene care packages;

• Announced Newton Falls Village and the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce will host a breakfast gathering with local and state officials 7:30 to 9 a.m. Sept. 18 at the high school;

• Heard from Haney that mattresses, chairs and other larger items needing picked up requires residents to contact their trash removal company;

• Set trick-or-treat 5 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 30 with the local Kiwanis Club also hosting a cake walk;

• Set a work session 5 p.m. Monday to review the electric purchase cost adjustment.
