Man faces drug charges
Accused of trying to sell crack cocain
LIBERTY — Bond is set at $12,500 for a man accused of selling drugs Friday outside the Walmart on Belmont Avenue, according to Girard Municipal Court records.
Keith R. Kennedy, 22, faces felony charges of trafficking in and possession of drugs in connection to a report Liberty police witnessed an exchange between three men in the store’s parking lot. Because the charge is a felony, a not guilty plea was automatically entered on Kennedy’s behalf.
According to the report, police saw the exchange between the men, one of whom was in a Ford Taurus and the other two, a Ford Explorer. One of the men got into the Taurus and was seen by police exchanging a plastic bag of what police believe was crack cocaine for money.
After the exchange, the man in the Taurus drove away.
Police stopped the Taurus and retrieved a plastic bag containing a white rock like substance that fell to the ground as the driver, whose license is suspended, got out of the car, the report states.
Rickey J. Aley, 56, 93 Willadell, Pa., and Frank E. Mellon, 39, 375 Russell Ave., Cortland, also were stopped by police after the exchange, the report states.
Police found a burned smoking pipe, a folded Taco Bell receipt that contained a white rock powder substance and a glass container with suspected drugs inside in the vehicle, the report states.
The two men were arrested, but because they were refused at the Trumbull County Jail, they were given a summons to appear in Girard court today on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, the report states.
Kennedy is due back in court on Sept. 26.
