Girard BOE approves contract with union
GIRARD — The Girard Board of Education at a special meeting Monday approved a new three-year contract with the Ohio Association of Public School Employees Local 425 that represents 60 employees in the district.
Treasurer Mark Bello said the new contract, which grants between 1 and 2 percent pay increases to the various employees, will cost the district $60,000 over three years.
The new contract is effective July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2021. The union represents bus drivers, cafeteria workers, secretaries, aides and custodial staff.
Bello said new job positions were created for the aide category, with five different job categories such as classroom aide and medical aide.
He said the different positions will receive various pay adjustments, with employees receiving between 1 to 2 percent over the three years.Bello said there is no specific pay increase overall per year, but varies each year depending on the job position.
The board also is negotiating a new agreement with the district’s teachers’ union, with a meeting set for Thursday.
The board also re-employed Laureen Brinker as EMIS coordinator.
