Trumbull to negotiate rail to bike trail

WARREN — Trumbull County commissioners Wednesday appointed Zachary Svette, operations director of Trumbull County MetroParks, to negotiate a deal with CSX Transportation in hopes of using old rail lines for part of a bike trail.

The line that CSX intends to abandon could be converted to a bike trail to help finish the last four-mile Trumbull County leg of the 79-mile Western Reserve Greenway if the company and Svette can reach a deal by Jan. 2.

The CSX rail line travels in a semi-circle between Newton Falls and Niles, passing through Weathersfield, Howland, Warren and Warren Township.
