Mosquito Lake drowning victim named

BAZETTA — A man who drowned Sunday in Mosquito Lake has been identified as Antonio S. Randall of Youngstown, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

“He swam out past the buoys, the 4.5-foot depth drops off after that. It was too deep,” said Eric Heis, ODNR spokesman.

Randall, 27, was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Warren Hospital. An autopsy will be conducted by the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office, according to the Trumbull County Coroner’s Office.

Randall’s death is believed to be the first drowning at the lake this summer, Heis said.

Another man swam out in an attempt to help Randall, but was pulled under the water. Bazetta Fire Department transported him to Trumbull Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released. His identity was not released.

Bazetta fire safety crews, ODNR and the Mosquito Lake marine patrol responded about 6:15 p.m. to the swimming area after receiving reports of a man drowning. A Trumbull County 911 report states people were trying to find and get the man out of the water, when the second person almost drowned in his attempt to save the man.

Heis said he spoke to park officers who said people on the beach saw one man in trouble in the water and then a second person go in to help and also get in trouble.
