Crew ruptures natural gas line

CHAMPION — The area surrounding Oak Hill Drive and Center Street West was blocked off to motor traffic for a short period of time Tuesday afternoon beginning around 2 p.m. after a gas line was damaged by work crews.

A contractor working with Dominion East Ohio Gas struck the line, according to the Trumbull County 911 Dispatch Center.

Dominion East Ohio Gas turned off the gas in the area, allowing a Dominion crew to repair the line, said Neil Durbin, a spokesman with the company.

A Champion Fire Department spokesman said fire crews went to the scene and shut the road down for 45 minutes while the gas line was repaired. He said no one was evacuated from the area.
