WHAT: Board of Education meeting Monday

PRESENT: Russell Sewell, Diane Duncan, Gary Morton and Tim Gibson

ABSENT: Virginia Blaney

The board:

• Gave first reading to placing a renewal of a 3 mill, five-year permanent improvement levy on the November ballot. Sewell said the county auditor will determine the amount the be generated annually;

• Approved Amy Frederick for the new administrative position of director of pupil services on a two-year contract. She was previously a special education teacher in the district;

• Approved new three-year agreement for Jeff Starkey, high school principal, through July 2021;

• Approved Kayla Carpenter as a high school family and consumer science teacher on a one-year contract and Tara Cain as secretary to the treasurer on a two-year contract;

• Will participate in the summer food service program offered by the Child Nutrition Division of the Ohio Department of Education;

• Received $8,000 donation from Jenny Kennedy for the “Bounce into Bascom” kindergarten readiness program. Teachers for the program are Stephanie Ratliff and Tina Toumazos at $3,500 each and aides are Melissa Humphrey-Gee and Tammi Jones at $12 per hour;

• Accepted the resignation of high school science teacher Craig Klotzbach, who will become a principal in Mansfield.
