Frantic woman pleads for help at fire station

GIRARD — A man accused of choking a woman he knows until she passed out and sticking a rifle in her face is being held in the Trumbull County Jail on $50,000 bond on a charge of felonious assault.

Justin Alexander, 30, 127 E. Wilson Ave., is scheduled to appear Thursday in Girard Municipal Court for a preliminary hearing. His bond was set Friday by Judge Jeffrey Adler during an arraignment. Because it is a felony charge, Alexander did not enter a plea.

Alexander was arrested and several guns were taken from his home after the woman showed up around 2:45 a.m. at the Girard Fire Department “hysterical and crying” and without shoes, according to a police report.

The woman told police the two had been hanging out until the man stuck a rifle in her face during a fight about cigarettes, the report states. The man then choked her with his hands and a belt until she passed out, according to the report.

When officers arrived at the Wilson Avenue home, with their weapons pulled because of the guns in the house, the man was sitting on the porch. He complied with officers’ orders as he was taken into custody, the report states.

Inside the house, the woman showed police to three rifles, one of which was a pellet gun, and a shotgun. Police took the guns, according to the report.
