1919: Warm winter makes it tough for florists

This week in history

10 years ago in 2008:

l Awakened by a smoke alarm, a Niles man ran to his children’s room to find his 14-month-old daughter standing at the end of her burning crib.

Along with 14-month-old Madalyn, brother, 2 1/2-year-old Nicholas IV, was standing on his bed in the burning room.

Nicholas Sennyk and his wife, Trisha, rescued the children; Madalyn suffered first-degree burns to her face and Nicholas IV suffered a minor burn to his hand, while their parents suffered burns to their necks and shoulders which, along with smoke inhalation, were treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center and Akron Children’s Hospital.
