13 apply for McDonald Schools treasurer job

McDONALD — Thirteen people applied to become the full-time treasurer of McDonald Local Schools.

Eight of the thirteen candidates hold positions in school districts while five work in the private sector, according to a list provided by the school district.

The applicants are Kimberly Blasco, Stacy Foster, John Ault, Karen Massari, Kathy Ainsley, Megan Titus, Julie Sloan, Michael Scudier, Jamie Batchelder, David Drawl, Ryan Cene, Leonard Morris and Ryan Jones.

The Board of Education is seeking a full-time treasurer to replace part-time Treasurer William Johnson, who will step down July 31. Johnson has said he will work with whomever is hired to familiarize that person with the duties.

McDonald Local Schools have had a part-time treasurer for a number of years but the board has always talked about transitioning back to full time, Superintendent Kevin O’Connell said.

Johnson was a treasurer for the district in the 1980s and this year marks the sixth year since he came back to work part time, O’Connell said.

“When they went part time years ago, it was during a fiscal crisis and they were fortunate to find someone like Bill Johnson that’s here now who was able to come back on a retire-rehire,” O’Connell said.

The board plans to start interviewing applicants May 7 and they will likely hire someone May 23 at their regularly scheduled meeting if they find a candidate they are comfortable with, O’Connell said.
