WHAT: Board of Education meeting Monday

PRESENT: Kelly Boyle, Patricia Fisher, David Mahan, John Pitts and Jim Scher

The board:

• Accepted the retirement resignation of Michael Luteran who worked 16 years in the district, most recently as middle school science teacher;

• Accepted the 2018-19 school calendar with first day for students Aug. 22 and last day May 22, 2019, with waiver days for teacher professional development Aug. 20 and Nov. 26;

• Approved high school speech and debate team to attend state finals speech tournament in Maumee-Perrysburg area Thursday to Saturday. Three members are competing in the finals. Cost is $300 per student with fundraising to help cover costs;

• Approved 28 sixth-grade students to attend an educational field trip to Camp Fitch in North Springfield., Pa., April 18 to 20 at $135 per student with transportation provided by school bus;

• Approved Strategic Solutions for the purpose of comprehensive scanning services of stored student records at the three buildings;

• Accepted a $1,000 donation from residents Rex and Kathy Fee for the high school robotics team program;

• Accepted $2,000 from Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley to Champion Schools Educational Enrichment Council Fund for two $1,000 educational grants presented to teachers;

• Announced the eighth annual “Swing into Spring” senior citizen advisory council dinner theater / awards program will be 5 p.m. March 20 at the high school.
