Three men were sworn in Monday morning as new Warren police officers — from left, John McGinley, 33, of Youngstown, new officers, Noah Linnen, 21, of Struthers and Thomas Wire, 30, of Austintown. This will be Linnen’s and McGinley’s first jobs as police officers. Wire previously worked for Hubbard Township and Mercy Health police departments. The hirings bring to eight the number of new officers the city brought in with the half-percent income tax increase passed in 2016. Also in that time, two officers retired and a third will retire this week. City officials said the goal is to hire 12 to 15 officers to bring the department total to 70, which will allow it to apply to hire three additional officers under the federal government’s Community Oriented Policing grant.

Warren Director of Service and Safety Enzo Cantalamessa administered the oath of office.
