Black History Month events

The following events have been planned in the area to celebrate Black History Month:

l Today to Feb. 24 –Black History Festival of the Arts at TCAP, 1230 Palmyra Road, Warren. African marketplace, art, music, and poetry, youth art class, daily movies and panel discussions. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Feb. 24. Grand finale is 7 p.m. Feb. 24 with the gospel play “Hidden Temptations.”

l Monday, 6 to 8 p.m. — “Black and Jewish in America” panel discussion, Jewish Community Center, Youngstown.

l Thursday 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. — Black Student Retention Series: Dr. Emma Frazier Pendleton, Kilcawley Center Ohio Room at YSU.

l Feb. 24, 1 p.m. — West African Drummer Sogbety Diomande, Liberty Branch Library, 415 Churchill-Hubbard Road and 3:30 p.m. Main Library of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. Performance includes drumming, dance, costumes, musical instruments, rhythms and songs of West Africa. Diomande, a native of the Ivory Coast in West Africa, is a professional drummer and dancer.
