Bazetta, unions meet over pacts
BAZETTA — Township trustees are in negotiations with the local fire and road department unions over their next contracts.
Trustee Chairman Ted Webb said a special meeting was held Thursday to meet with the fire union, whose current three-year contract expires Wednesday. The fire union represents nine firefighters.
“We have been meeting to exchange ideas for the next three-year agreement,” he said.
Webb said the township also is negotiating with the road department on their next agreement. The local Teamsters union represents four road workers. Their agreement expired Dec. 31.
Trustees reached a new three-year agreement with the police department in May.
In other business, trustees:
l Approved a three-year lease for a police cruiser from Mark Thomas Ford at $10,000 per year totaling three payments of $30,000;
l Accepted a $9,000 grant for the police department for needed equipment;
l Accepted the resignation of IT specialist Joel Davis effective Feb. 9 but approved hiring Davis on a contract basis of $60 per hour for the remainder of the year as needed. Webb said while Davis is no longer a township employee, trustees will work with him for computer and equipment needs.
