Store robbed; man arrested

WARREN — A Cortland man was arrested Tuesday evening after a robbery at Family Dollar, 2430 Youngstown Road SE, during which a store clerk was pushed into a merchandise display.

Justin A. Gibbs, 30, 6325 Love Warner Road, pleaded not guilty Wednesday during his arraignment in Warren Municipal Court to a charge of robbery and a probation violation, according to court and jail records. He remains at the Trumbull County Jail on a $15,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing Jan. 11.

According to a police report, a man was seen stuffing shirts inside his coat around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. When a store employee confronted him, the man ran past the employee and pushed her into a store display before running out.

The man, later identified as Gibbs, was seen by officers near the 1500 block of Hazelwood Avenue and was arrested. He turned over the stolen shirts to officers, the report states.

Police identified Gibbs as the suspect using video surveillance from the store. He also was identified by the clerk, the report states.
