Deadly crash in Mecca
MECCA — One person is dead and another was badly injured Sunday when a motorcycle struck the back end of a dump truck just before 8 p.m. at the intersection of Hoagland Blackstub Road and state Route 88, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
A release from the patrol states the dump truck, traveling north on Hoagland Blackstub turned east onto Route 88 when, at the same time, a Harley-Davidson with two passengers traveling east on Route 88 hit the rear of the truck, throwing the driver and passenger from the motorcycle.
The driver of the motorcycle, 43, of Cortland, was taken to St. Joseph Warren Hospital, where he died. His passenger, 27, of Burghill, was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with severe injuries. A condition on her was not available Sunday night.
The driver of the truck, 19, of North Bloomfield, was not hurt.
The crash is under investigation. The names were not released pending notification of kin, the release states.
