WHAT: Mathews Board of Education meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Tarin Brown, Michele Garman, Rex Rager, Terry Woodyard and Jamie Koehler

The board:

• Heard from Superintendent Lew Lowery that talks on consolidating with Brookfield or Liberty schools is ”a dead issue” as neither district is interested. However, Lowery said Liberty and Brookfield are interested in possible shared services among the three school systems with the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber contacted on what grants are available for a study;

• Approved ServPro to complete work on the high school kitchen and cafeteria floors at cost not to exceed $6,000. Brown said a drain in an upstairs restroom had a sewage backup that overflowed from the ceiling into the kitchen and cafeteria. He said insurance will cover costs;

• Approved senior graduation for May 17, 2018 at Packard Music Hall at a cost of $3,500 for use of the facility;

• Approved the high school band trip to Williamsburg, Va., May 4-6, 2018; Spanish class trip to Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Pittsburgh, Oct. 26; art and social studies trip to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater Museum in Mill Run, Pa., Nov. 7; and Spanish trip to Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Nov. 14;

• Scheduled a special meeting 6 p.m. Tuesday at the board office to replace the superintendent’s secretary / EMIS coordinator, Stephanie Marin, who accepted a position at the Trumbull Career and Technical Center. Her last day is Sept. 29.
