Niles FD holding open house

NILES — The community is invited today between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to the Niles Fire Department for an open house.

Activities will include a demonstration on how to use a fire extinguisher, freedom to explore the fire engines, a demonstration on how firefighters remove a person stuck in a vehicle after a crash and a smoke trailer.

Children will be invited to navigate through a trailer set up like a home, filled with the harmless smoke of a fog machine, in order to teach them the proper way to evacuate a smoke-filled room, said fire Lt. Ron Freel.

Popcorn, hot dogs and drinks will be served.
