Newton Township man shot while walking his dog

NEWTON TOWNSHIP — A shooting Saturday morning at a Newton Township trailer park left one man wounded and another in custody, according to a report from the Trumbull County 911 Center.

Authorities were called about 10:30 a.m. to the Blue Water Manor mobile home park off Carson Salt Springs Road, where Eddie Chipps of Newton Township was shot in the stomach. According to a 911 call sheet, the victim was breathing and conscious when police arrived.

Chipps was walking his dog along Kings Drive SW when a 76-year-old man yelled his name from the front porch, the report states. Chipps turned around and was shot once in the stomach with a bullet, possibly from a 20-gauge pump shotgun, according to the report. He was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, the report states.

A caller advised 911 the shooter was at a Marquis Drive SW address with the weapon in the living room near the door.

The suspect was taken into custody and booked into the jail at 11:32 a.m., jail records show.

However no charges had been filed. The Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office is investigating and did not release any additional information.
