HARTFORD — A very weak tornado touched down in northeast Trumbull County Thursday evening, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.

The tornado touched down near Hartford in the area of state Route 193 at 7:18 p.m., the weather service said. It classified the tornado as an EF0, which is the weakest on the Enhanced Fujita Scale used to measure tornado severity.

A tornado warning was issued in Trumbull County around 7 p.m. and expired a half hour later, when a tornado warning was issued for Mercer County. A second warning was issued for Trumbull County just before 8 p.m. and all warnings expired by 8:30 p.m.

Vienna resident Tarin Brown said he was at the Currie Elementary School open house Thursday evening when he and others watched from the parking lot what appeared to be a funnel cloud twirling in the sky around 7:15 p.m.

”It appeared to be a cell twisting. We heard that something may have come down in Fowler but it was hard to see with the tree line,” he said.

Brown said he drove to Fowler center but state Route 193 north of Route 305 was blocked.

Vienna fire Lt. Doug Johnson said there was no touch down there, but a tree fell into power lines, closing the road. The sky was “nasty,” Johnson said, and it sure looked like a tornado was forming.

There were reports of funnel clouds in the area and trees down in Fowler, Kinsman, Hartford and Champion, but no reports of damage or injuries, according to the Trumbull County 911 Center.
