Champion schools alter release times

CHAMPION — Because of the solar eclipse event Monday, Champion Local School District will alter its student release times and has canceled its kindergarten classes.

A news release from the district states students in grades one through 12 will be released early Monday, which is the first day of school. Champion Middle School students will be released at 12:20 p.m., high school students will be released at 12:35 p.m. and Champion Elementary School will be released at 1:15 p.m.

The release also states classroom window blinds will be pulled starting at 1 p.m. to reduce sunlight into the rooms and outdoor recess will be suspended as of 1 p.m.

Kindergarten students will begin classes Tuesday.

In Ashtabula County, the Jefferson Local School District has canceled classes Monday because of the “dangers associated with viewing the eclipse during dismissal and on the bus ride home,” a news release from the district states.
