Girard FD earns $428,000 grant

GIRARD — The Girard Fire Department has been awarded a $428,572 grant from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. Congressman Tim Ryan, D-Howland, announced the grant Thursday, noting it is vital to provide funding to ensure local fire departments have adequate funding for the resources they need to keep communities safe. He said the grant will ensure the health and safety of firefighters and first responders. Also receiving a grant was the Barberton Fire Department in Summit County, which received $178,182, according to a news release from Ryan’s office.
