Eight vehicles involved in I-76 crash
Lanes closed for several hours
NORTH JACKSON — Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield Post were at the scene late Sunday evening investigating a multiple-vehicle accident on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 76 that closed lanes for several hours and sent people to the hospital.
The eight-vehicle accident, which included cars, a Jeep, SUV, construction vans and tractor trailer, happened about 6 p.m. at I-76 and Bailey Road interchange in North Jackson, reports state.
A Trumbull County 911 report indicates multiple people from the eight-vehicle crash were injured and some in critical condition.
A patrol spokesman said crews were still at the scene about 9 p.m. It is believed some people involved in the accident were taken to the hospital.
Reports indicate a second crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. about a half mile east of the Route 534 interchange in the eastbound lanes of I-76. That accident involved a car and semi truck, reports state, and traffic was being redirected. Reports indicate two medical helicopters landed at the scene and people from the accident were taken to the hospital.
A Trumbull County 911 dispatcher reported two people have been taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in critical condition. Reports indicate people from the accident at 534 were carried by helicopter to the hospital and are in critical condition.
The second accident may have happened as traffic was at a standstill from the first accident and a vehicle with an adult and three children rammed into the back of a truck and was lodged under a semi, according to Tribune Chronicle news partner WKBN-27.
Austintown, North Jackson, Milton and Lordstown fire all responded to the crashes.
