Rehab is sought for historic cabin
BRACEVILLE — Trumbull County MetroParks is applying for a $43,000 state grant to rehabilitate the historic Ellis Log Cabin.
The cabin, on 136 acres of land on Nelson Moser Road, is in the process of being transferred from the Western Reserve Land Conservancy to MetroParks. The money would be used to create a park with walking trails, parking and hunting areas by 2019, said Zachary Svette, MetroParks operations manager.
Board member John Brown said records show the cabin was built from chestnut in 1819. “The wood, roof and floor are solid. The rafters are made of chestnut and the bark is still on the wood. It is in remarkable condition and a true treasure for Trumbull County. It will be a showcase for the metroparks,” Brown said.
