WHAT: County commissioners meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Commissioners Frank Fuda and Mauro Cantalamessa

ABSENT: Commissioner Daniel Polivka

The commissioners:

• Transferred Brian J. Pishotti from custodial worker in the maintenance department to laborer in the Sanitary Engineer’s Department at a pay rate of $12.49 an hour;

• Began accepting requests for proposals for youth services providers for the Workforce Development Board’s Out-of-School Youth Program;

• Authorized the Trumbull County Combined Health District to accept payments from debit and credit cards;

• Accepted the annual report from the Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services;

• Approved the closure of Corinth Court Road in Johnston Township between state Route 5 and Davis Peck Road for bridge replacement from July 5 to Oct. 2, and the closure of County Line Turnpike Road in Southington between state Route 534 and Stroup Hickox Road from July 10 to Oct. 6;

• Entered into a memorandum of understanding with FirstEnergy so the company can make upgrades and improvements to the infrastructure of the power lines throughout the county;

• Approved projects under the 2015 Girard Community Development Block Grant Downtown Revitalization Program, including $13,106 to Patrick and Paul Rubinic for renovations at Knight Line Embroidery, 16 W. Liberty St., to be completed by Clayton Heating and Air Conditioning Co.; $6,110 to Tina Kratsas for furnace replacement at TS Simone Hair Salon, 49 W. Liberty St., to be completed by Clayton Heating and Air Conditioning Co.; $15,000 to Richard Deeds for siding and exterior masonry work at Premier Integration, 50 Harry St., to be completed by Knight Construction; $2,095 to Gina and William Kenneally for renovations at Salon Stefano, 123 W. Liberty St., to be completed by Warren Glass and Paint Company;

• Awarded Klarich Farms of Newbury a $33,500 contract to replace three home sewage treatment systems in Champion, Liberty and Newton, turning down a $43,685 bid from Yoho’s Action Septic Tank and Supply Inc. of Leavittsburg and a $46,300 bid from Z-Tech Builders and Excavators Inc. of Cortland;

• Accepted a $207,570 grant from the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice for the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force;

• Approved the purchase of a 2017 GMC Sierra 2500 truck from Bob Ross Buick Inc., Centerville, for $38,539 and the purchase of two 2017 Ford F-250 trucks at $60,935 from Mark Thomas Ford Inc., Cortland, both for use in the Sanitary Engineer’s Department. A $82,955 bid from Fred Martin Ford and a $62,445 bid from Middletown Ford Inc. for the Ford trucks were turned down.

Mecca

WHAT: Township trustee meeting Monday

PRESENT: Fritz Birkhimer, Dan Galbincea and James Governor

Trustees:

• Will seek bids for the repaving of two miles of township roads, including Mahan-Denman Road from Bazetta Road to Morrell Ray Road and Mahan-Denman from Phillips Rice Road to Love Warner Road;

•l Approved increasing the credit card limit from $10,000 to $12,000 for the road department foreman.

Howland

WHAT: Township trustee meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Matt Vansuch and Rick Clark

ABSENT: Jim Lapolla

Trustees:

• Approved submitting the grant application for the $1.8 million Golden Triangle infrastructure improvement project, with the 50 percent match of $900,000 being split between the township, the county and Warren city. The project will widen Dietz Road, replace waterlines along it and add an L-shaped access road connecting Dietz Road with Larchmont Avenue to ease traffic congestion. The Golden Triangle is an industrial area roughly encompassed between North Park Avenue and Larchmont Avenue, with a southern tip where Dana Street and North Park Avenue meet.

l Approved a contract the with county engineer’s office for road improvements through the Ohio Public Works program. Public Works Director David McCann said the first $349,000 Issue 1 project will begin Tuesday with paving and widening work to be done by Butch and McCree Paving of Hillsville, Pa. and include Willow Drive and six other streets. He said the second session of paving will be later this summer and bid out for a contractor;

l Accepted the resignation of part-time firefighter Brandon Gaines, who will work full-time in Warren;

l Declared 14 properties as public nuisances because of high grass. Cost for township cutting grass the first time is $150 and second time $225 assessed on the property tax;

l Reported the rain barrel fundraiser by Howland High School art students raised $685. The rain barrels were auctioned at the township hall;

l Scheduled the annual alternative tax budget hearing following the 4:30 p.m. meeting July 26.
