Sex offender wants back in prison
WARREN — A convicted sex offender arrested in December on a charge of failure to verify his address asked a judge on Thursday to send him to prison because he is homeless and cannot find a place to live.
Paul T. Lassiter Jr., 52, was sentenced to six months in prison by Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Ronald Rice. Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Attorney Gabe Wildman said it was an unusual case because Lassiter had family that was helping him and would take him to the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office to verify where he lived, but he would not do it.
Wildman said there are ways for even homeless persons to verify a place they are staying and not return to prison.
“Even if he was living under a bridge, he could identify where he is living,” Wildman said. “We know it can be especially difficult for persons convicted of sex offenses because there are rules where they can and cannot live.”
