WHAT: Champion Local Schools board of education meeting Monday

PRESENT: Kelly Boyle, Patricia Fisher, Jim Scher and John Pitts

ABSENT: David Mahan

The board:

• Appointed Scher to the facilities committee, and Boyle to the legislative committee and as board representative to the Trumbull Career and Technical Center through 2017. The three positions were held by board member Roger Samuelson, who died recently;

• Had Trumbull County Probate Judge James Fredericka administer the oath of office to Fisher as the new board member. She fills Samuelson’s seat;

• Heard from Brett Hendricks, president of BSHM Architects of Youngstown, that “bricks and mortar” and concrete work have begun on the new PK-8 School complex on state Route 45 south of the high school;

• Accepted the resignation of middle school teacher Laurie Busch, who is leaving the area with her family. She served 10 years in the district;

• Announced a drug prevention committee will meet 6:30 p.m. today at high school media center;

• Announced Champion Central Principal Alexandra Nannicola has been named the 2017 Outstanding Administrator YSU Alumnus by the Youngstown State University Beeghly College of Education;

• Received a proclamation from state Rep. Michael J. O’Brien, D-Warren, and Mark Jones, associate executive director of the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators to Champion Middle School for being named a 2017 Hall of Fame School by OAESA;

• Approved Jewel Brown as volunteer for the Care Crew program at Central Elementary.
