Man gets prison for part in spitting incident

WARREN — A Newton Falls man on Tuesday received a six-month prison sentence after being convicted of felony charges linked to him spitting on a city police officer during his arrest.

Jeremy S. Adams, 33, 114 1/2 S. Canal St., pleaded guilty before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Andrew D. Logan to a charge of harassment with a bodily substance.

Assistant prosecutor Gina Buccino-Arnaut said Adams spit on one of the police officers as that tried to arrest him after a chase on the morning of Sept. 25, 2016. Reports said Adams was accused of breaking into two vehicles and was chased by witnesses on West River Road near Fifth Street.

After a struggle, in which Adams was hit with a Taser several times, the police report said he was handcuffed.

Adams was later taken to the hospital, but left, and was later found by police hiding in a South Canal Street home, the police report states.

Court records show a Trumbull County grand jury indicted Adams Jan. 4, 2017, on charges of harassment with a bodily substance and a misdemeanor resisting arrest, which was dismissed by prosecutors when Adams agreed to plead guilty to the felony. A grand jury chose not to indict Adams on charges of assault and disrupting public services, court records show.
