Man gets jail term in Niles break-in

WARREN — The man convicted on arson charges linked to the August destruction of the Niles McKinley High School Dragon Wagon was convicted Tuesday on charges of felony vandalism and breaking and entering stemming from an earlier incident at a North Bentley Avenue business in Niles.

Ricky Mohn, 20, Lancer Court NW, Warren, pleaded guilty to the charges before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Andrew D. Logan, who sentenced him to six months in prison.

Assistant Prosecutor Gina Buccino Arnaut said the charges were linked to a June 25, 2016, break-in and vandalism at the Southside Landscaping Co. in Niles.

On Jan. 19, Judge Ronald J. Rice sentenced Mohn to six months in the county jail and five year’s probation on felony charges connected to his part in starting an Aug. 19 fire that destroyed the Niles Dragon Wagon concession stand at Bo Rein Stadium.

Rice also ordered Mohn pay $56,289 in restitution to repair the damages and pay for rebuilding of the structure. The football stand is expected to be rebuilt in the spring so the Niles Football Mothers can continue to sell Red Dragon merchandise to raise money for students.

A charge of contributing to the delinquency of minors against Mohn is also being heard in Trumbull County Family Court.
