Man gets one year in prison
Convicted on charges linked to beating
WARREN — A Warren man was sentenced Monday to one year in prison after being convicted on felony charges linked to a Jan. 16 beating of a 34-year-old woman who was once his friend.
Eric Lee Lenix, 27, of 506 Scott St., apologized for his actions as he appeared with a public defender before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Peter J. Kontos. The judge told Lenix he would have to pay for his crime.
“It doesn’t matter if you were on drugs at the time. You are being sentenced for your act,” Kontos told the defendant, who could have been given a maximum three-year sentence.
Lenix had pleaded guilty on Sept. 26 to an amended indictment of attempted felonious assault, a third-degree felony, which headed off a jury trial.
The woman, who was not in court to give an impact statement, had reported to police that while she was at his Scott Street home, the man pointed a “sawed-off shotgun” at her and demanded money. Kontos said the woman was punched several times in the face and head, and then was kicked while she was on the floor before giving the man $40. The man then told the victim he would shoot up the house if she called police, a police report states.
The woman’s eyes were bruised, police reports said.
At first, the woman thought the man’s actions were a joke because he had been a friend, the report states.
