Man gets 6 months for child porn

WARREN — A Warren man on Thursday was given a six-month jail term plus five years probation after being convicted of 25 felony charges connected to the discovery of 800 images of child pornography on a cellphone.

Vincent E. Heflin, 43, 1361 Blakely Circle SW, Apt. 801,  pleaded guilty to the felonies in July before Trumbull County Common Pleas Judge Ronald Rice.

During sentencing, Rice labeled Heflin a sexual predator, requiring him to register his address with the sheriff’s office for the rest of his life.

As another term of his probation, Rice said Heflin is not allowed to be alone with anyone under age 18 unless another adult is present.

After reading results of a psychological report on Helflin, Rice on March 10 ruled the defendant competent to answer the charges. Heflin pleaded guilty to six counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor and 19 counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor.

Police responded Oct. 14, 2015, to Heflin’s home and questioned him about the images that his 18-year-old niece found on his phone while borrowing it, according to a police report.

Heflin told police he is the owner of the phone but denied downloading the “photos and videos involving very young children,” the report stated.
