Tues. 3:15 p.m.: Former Niles mayor faces 56-count indictment
NILES – A 56-count indictment alleging the 24-year former mayor of Niles ran an illegal gambling operation, stole while in office, engaged in bribery, tampered with records and engaged in a pattern of political corruption was handed up today by a Trumbull County grand jury, according to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
The indictment names Ralph A. Infante, 61; his wife, Judy Infante, 67; their McKinley Heights business, the Italian American War Veterans Post No. 39; and city water department operator, Scott Shaffer, 51.
Ralph Infante faces 56 charges, Judy Infante faces 11, and Shaffer faces two charges.
