WHAT: Township trustees meeting Tuesday

PRESENT: Aaron Young and Rebecca Rood

ABSENT: Todd Brewster


• Approved posting signs prohibiting engine braking on state Route 5 between Warren Ravenna Road and the township limits;

• Heard from residents who complained that someone took down their political signs in recent weeks;

• Received a $7,784 check from Buckeye Pipeline Co. for costs for repairs to the road when the company was working on pipes. Young said the township worked with the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office on the repairs.

WHAT: Township trustees meeting Monday

PRESENT:  Dominic Marchese, Davis Denman and Jim Carnes


• Scheduled a special meeting 9 a.m. Nov. 26 at the senior center to meet with Gustavus and Kinsman officials over emergency medical service contracts;

• Approved $800 for new tires for the fire medic truck.

WHAT: Maplewood Board of Education meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Dan Denman, David Drawl,  Dan Schwartz, Joyce Barzak and Tom Donaldson

The board:

• Heard from Jordan Moxley, high school art teacher, who received a $2,000 Turning Foundation grant to supply stained glass materials for students to create a large-scale mural highlighting the history of Maplewood schools. She said those who have histories to share on people to include on the mural can contact her at the high school. Moxley also reported receiving a $1,000 donation from Maplewood alumni Pete Varlas for the art club.

WHAT: Township trustee meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Sam Plott and Dan Tietz

ABSENT: Bob Reader


• Will be contacting neighboring Champion to set up a meeting to discuss contracting for ambulance and fire service for the township;

• Approved $3,328 to Ohio Cat for skid steer repairs, $603 to Orion of Canton for repairs to the spreader box on dump truck, and $333 to Menards for insulation in the 1907 school building;

• Announced the annual Christmas tree lighting 6:15 p.m. Dec. 3 at the gazebo in the park;

• Are interviewing three candidates today for road department employee. Three other candidates were interviewed Monday. Road Supervisor Clarence Speaker is retiring early next year;

• Will have the Trumbull County engineer’s office assist with ditch and road bed work on Anthony Anderson Road because of water problems.
